With limited municipal intake across NJ the lines have blurred between "owned" house cats and strays
Inadequate impound facilities across NJ have blurred the lines between stray, feral and owned cats. The Whiskers Wagon pilot has taught us that now more than ever the community is being asked to "shelter" strays. It has led to families taking in cats left to starve by neighbors. Without access to low cost or free spay/neuter residents are finding themselves facing a growing number of cats in their homes that they are unable to provide for.

Inadequate impound facilities leave the community to shelter:
Despite clear laws that require all strays reported to animal control be impounded for no less than 7 days we are finding that more often than not residents are left to their own devises.
In just 8 weeks we have transported over 150 cats for spay /neuter!! What happens when the grant funding is gone? With out donations the Whiskers Wagon will not be able to run.
The grand experiment.... will residents TNVR cats they feed if resources are local and free?
We continue to advocate for passage of New Jersey Bill A2105/S2864 which will require vital oversight by the state. It's the first step in changing the narrative of NJ animal control.
