2026 Spring Newsletter

As the state continues to ignore its duty to compel cities to offer timely, humane animal control services and protect public health, we continue to assist residents in navigating a broken system and fill gaps as best we can while the fight continues to hold New Jersey towns accountable.

Just one of many cats turned away from legally required shelter intake.

Sad Start, Happy Ending: One of our 50 Feral Fix program participants trapped a friendly cat in a town that illegally refuses to intake cats into their shelter. Rather than release a friendly cat, she elected to bring the cat indoors. When he developed urinary stones, her vet warned her that another flare-up would require costly lifesaving surgery.

Sadly, another flare-up did come, and this resident did not have the money to cover the required surgery. She turned to Whiskers who found a reasonable vet willing to partner and provide timely surgery. This handsome boy has fully recovered with preventative care in place thanks to our program but failed by he and his owner's municipality.

Some Spring Newsletter highlights:

  • California based Pet Assistance Foundation (PAF) sued San Diego Humane Society (SDHS) alleging SDHS violated state law by illegally abandoning cats and not holding stray cats for the required time, instead returning them to the streets without ensuring they were properly reunited with owners. The court ruled in favor of PAF.

  • We continue to advocate for passage of New Jersey Bill A2105/S2864 which will require vital oversight by the state. It's the first step in changing the narrative of NJ animal control.

Check out Whiskers' Community Connection to stay on top of bills that affect cats in our state.

  • Does your employer match gifts? We love when our generous donors make their donations go even further through matching!

  • Quality equipment is vital in the fight to prevent litters outside. We've acquired over 40 traps in our bank and have the best equipment available so cats and people stay safe!

  • In the last 8 months, we've already provided 400 vouchers for surgery and veterinary care for those in need.

  • We always need jewelry and donations to keep funding our vouchers, but now more than ever.
