In a state with often unclear laws defining who is responsible for free-roaming cats interpretations across different municipalities are leaving cats to suffer.

Just one of many cats failed by feeders and the law.
Just one of many cats failed by feeders and the law.

When no one will enforce the law cats are left to die: We had a wonderful young woman referred to our program recently. She had come across an injured cat who was part of a colony being fed by a local resident. Desperate to help him she did her best to educate the feeder. Sadly he felt "nature should takes it course". At our advise she contacted the humane law enforcement offer and animal control. Despite our help we were told an injured cat with a possible unknown bite wound could not be impounded despite state laws that clearly say he must be. This cat may have recovered and may have died. With no enforcement no one was permitted to help.

Some Spring Newsletter highlights:

  • No enforcement leaves cats to suffer:

Despite clear laws that require reported strays be impounded most municipalities refuse. This leaves cats to suffer and the public in danger with a growing number of rabid animals.

  • We continue to advocate for passage of New Jersey Bill A2105/S2864 which will require vital oversight by the state. It's the first step in changing the narrative of NJ animal control.

Check out Whiskers' Community Connection to stay on top of bills that affect cats in our state.

  • Does your employer match gifts? We love when our generous donors make their donations go even further through matching!

  • Quality equipment is vital in the fight to prevent litters outside. We've acquired over 40 traps in our bank and have the best equipment available so cats and people stay safe!

  • In the last 11 months, we've already provided 468 vouchers for surgery and veterinary care for those in need.

  • We always need jewelry and donations to keep funding our vouchers, but now more than ever.

Please share our page and mission far and wide! And don't forget to sign up here to get newsletters and updates on all things TNR.
